–          Coaches receive 3 defensive conferences per game and 1 for each extra inning (cannot carry any of the original 3 into extra innings)  they also have 1 offensive conference per inning.

Main emphasis this week was on pitching:

–          Windup position:  When starting motion the pitcher can make step to the side/sideways or forward

–          Set Position,   foot must be parallel to pitching rubber

–          Stop can be at the chin or below,  once set the pitcher cannot take hand off the ball

–          Base wards,  if pitcher steps off rubber clean and ball is thrown out of play,  base runners receive 2 bases as pitcher is determined to be a fielder.  If spin/pivot to 1st and out of play, the base runner receives 1 base.

–          Left handed pitcher pick off,  the root foot need to step towards 1st based on a 45 degree angle,   Entire foot passes back part of rubber he must make the pitch towards the home/catcher

–          A pitcher can throw to an unoccupied base to force a runner back (we will see this in almost all cases when a runner on 3rd is attempting to steal 3rd,  the pitcher may step directly to 3rd and throw the ball)  It is important and umpire judgement if the runner from 2nd was actually making an attempt (stealing) 3rd.

–          High School Rules allow fake to 3rd to 1st and this is not a balk

–          Pitchers cannot wear white or gray long sleeves.  When a pitcher wears sleeves they must be solid in color (no camo)

–          Slide Rule 8-4-2B,  home plates responsibility is to assist field umpire with the slide at 2nd,  the is no must slide rule, if sliding the lead foot cannot be above the knee

Connor spent about 10 minutes going over signs,  reinforced to try to get in the best position of making a call within 6-8 of the base/plate,  always be verbally communicating with partner

Dick (Assignments)  Reinforced to confirm with school and with partner.    Scrimmage games are half game fee plus mileage.  Per Sec II contract,  games scheduled after 3/25 are full game fee even if a scrimmage.   Season is starting…will be busy very soon.   Let’s hope for good weather this season!

50/50 winner Patrick Bishop
